Abstract: According to the ACA Code of Ethics (2014), gatekeeping is a responsibility of counselors; however, counselors report reluctance to practice gatekeeping. This is critical because gatekeeping protects the integrity of the profession and the treatment provided to clients. This session will highlight the need for gatekeeping and explore the barriers to gatekeeping. In addition, the presenters will provide information about procedures, processes, and best practices of gatekeeping and remediation. NBCC – 1 contact hour; NAADAC 1 contact hour (pending)

Abstract: There has been a compelling call for a major commitment to interprofessional education to better prepare health professionals for the future of healthcare delivery, but early efforts have been plagued with unforeseen challenges. Several systems factors have now been identified that contribute to the challenge of delivering high quality interprofessional education. This presentation will identify the most significant obstacles to effective interprofessional education based on implementation experience over many years, and describe solutions and strategies to overcome these barriers to achieving the goal of dynamic and sustained interprofessional education.
