Use of Simulation to Assess AACN Competencies in Undergraduate Nursing Students
The American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials (2021) requires nurse educators to deliver competency-based education (CBE), focusing on assessing what students know and can do. Simulations are an ideal method of formative and summative assessment of competencies.
During this session the speakers will share practical strategies for developing and delivering competency-based simulations in undergraduate nursing programs.

This information was not new to me. However, it was very good to be reminded of the way to organize the approach to a competency based curriculum and how simulation can be useful. I see the struggles of all faculty in providing the best education and evaluation for nursing students.
And, I appreciate how the presenters incorporated demonstrations into their presentations to illustrate what a competency-based curriculum looks like in simulation experiences.
Great examples of how to map curriculum and sim alignment. Very much liked, the simulation example that was provided, and discussion of moving multiple students through a simulation at the same time.
The information was very informative, and I will utilize in practice.
I think the information was really well presented and liked the detail given on how to develop the simulations and competencies. Clarity and precision in the content presentation.
I’m stressed about the tedious work this entailed, readying the program for CBE with ALL of those essentials!
