Sit Back, Relax, Simulate: Introduction to the Pre-Sim Centering Moment

Learners frequently arrive for simulation in an anxious and dysregulated mental state. Knowing that they are being recorded during the simulation session causes performance anxiety and nervousness. Their nervousness, while understandable, can interfere with their ability to absorb information, make meaning out of, and maximize their educational value in simulation encounters. Our team at the Samuel Merritt University Health Sciences Simulation Center (SMU-HSSC) is addressing this issue by offering brief centering exercises prior to the start of all simulations. During this learning session, participants will learn how to incorporate mindfulness activities into simulation practice.
